Welcome Parents and Students, this year is going to be an exciting year for learning. In my class we are going to learn about the planets and the stars, about different types of habitats and we are going to do several projects based on different continents. Solar System

Sunshine State Standards for 3^rd Grade Science

1- The Student recognizes the processes in the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere and how they interact to shape the Earth.

· The student must know that 75% percent of the surface of the Earth is covered by water.

* Atmosphere: The layer of gases surrounding the earth and composed of considerable amounts of nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.

* Lithosphere:the solid, outer layer of Earth that consists of the crust and the rigid upper part of the mantle.

* Hydrosphere:Any part of the Earth or its atmosphere in which water or water vapor is found.

*Biosphere:is the part of the earth and its atmosphere where organisms live.

2- The Student recognizes the vastness of the universe and Earths place in it.

· Knows in addition to the sun, there are many other stars that are far away.

3- The student understands the interaction and organization in the Solar System and the universe and how it affects life on Earth.

· Knows the planets differ in size, characteristics and composition and that they orbit the sun in our solar system.
