Sunshine State Standards for 3rd Grade Science
1- The
Student recognizes the processes in the lithosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere
and how they interact to shape the Earth.
· The student must know that 75% percent of the surface of the Earth is covered
by water.
* Atmosphere: The layer of gases surrounding the
earth and composed of considerable amounts of nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.
* Lithosphere:the solid, outer layer of Earth that
consists of the crust and the rigid upper part of the mantle.
* Hydrosphere:Any part of the Earth or its atmosphere
in which water or water vapor is found.
*Biosphere:is the part of the earth and its atmosphere
where organisms live.
2- The
Student recognizes the vastness of the universe and Earths place in it.
· Knows in addition to the sun, there are many other stars that are far away.
3- The
student understands the interaction and organization in the Solar System and the universe and how it affects life on Earth.
· Knows the planets differ in size, characteristics and composition and that they
orbit the sun in our solar system.
· Knows that the tilt of the Earth on its own axis as it rotates and revolves around
